When should you send wedding invitations? A timeline
Send the main invitation four to six weeks before the wedding, and a short save-the-date earlier if guests travel. Set the reply date two to three weeks before the day and remind once, a week before it.
What is the timeline?
The table shows a practical order. Adjust it to your hall, the season and how far guests travel.
| When | What to send | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 8 to 12 weeks | Save-the-date (only if guests travel) | Lets people book leave and flights |
| 4 to 6 weeks | The main invitation with an RSVP link | Time to reply and plan |
| 3 weeks | Reply date | Final numbers for the hall and caterer |
| 2 weeks | One reminder to non-repliers | Most forgotten replies arrive now |
| 1 week | Directions and a note for the door | Fewer calls on the day |
Does Ramadan or the season change it?
Yes. Send earlier before Ramadan, Eid and school holidays, when diaries fill quickly. If many guests are abroad in summer, send the save-the-date sooner.
Can I send a digital invitation late?
A link can be sent in minutes, so a late change of venue or date is easier to fix than with print. Still, do not rely on it: guests need time to arrange travel and dress.
If details change after sending, tell guests in a short message with the new information.
How do I handle reminders?
One reminder a week before the reply date, then a personal call for close family. Keep a short list of who has not replied.
Questions and answers
How early is too early?
More than three months ahead, guests may forget; use a save-the-date, not the full invitation.
Do I send the invitation again if the date changes?
Send a short message with the new date and, if the link carries the date, an updated link.
When should the henna and katb invitations go out?
Two to three weeks ahead, with their own links.
